Your mind is a very tricky thing. Most of the time you think you have control but in reality it has control of you. Dreams are big things and when we set out to accomplish them our brain usually sets out on an opposite course, how to prevent us from getting there.
Why would our brains work against us? Isn’t accomplishing a dream a way to give meaning to our lives and fill some void (and maybe our pockets)? Yes, but that also means change. Change means new situations, unknown variables, and things we can’t even imagine. While we may talk big and feel confidence deep inside us there is a part in our brain that screams ‘No! Stay here where we know everything.’ Whether we wish to admit it or not we are all creatures of habit.
Our brain fights us in very clever ways. Some are well known to us, procrastination, mental blocks, distraction, but there are others that are just as devilish. You may find yourself working on a necessary task, then working more, then more, then more and eventually getting so sucked in to that one aspect to a level that just isn’t necessary.
Take for example my situation. I know that a website is necessary for me to get the information about my trip out as well as act as a contact/landing page for possible employers but last week I found myself drowning in all the possibilities that are available. Initially I knew what I wanted but bit by bit I was drawn into this seemingly simple task. Ten, fifteen, twenty hours flew by wasted by following endless threads of what I could do rather then what I needed to do. My brain had played a good trick on me by befuddling and luring me into the deep pools of possibility and away from the solid ground of necessity.
How the heck can you fight that 3 pound mass of flesh sitting inside your skull? Take your final goal and write it down on a few pieces of paper. Put them in places that you always look (the bathroom is a great one) and keep one next to your bed to read just before going to sleep and just after waking up. Whenever you are working on a task ask yourself occasionally, ‘is this an efficient use of my time and is what I am doing bringing me any closer to my dream?’ It basically boils down to you convincing your brain that what your doing is for the best and being able to break through the walls it throws up on the meantime.
How is your brain blocking your path? Is it telling you to start tomorrow or that you should spend just a little more time doing something when you know you should be moving on? Figure out your weakness, work to overcome them and keep moving forward with your mind always on the prize!

I’m not sure if my comments ever get through to you, but I guess I’ll give you one more. I know you have a dream and a plan that will span some time. You’re spending a great deal of time and effort to further that cause, but my question would be…how much time are you spending in preparing for an ‘actual’ real-live, day to day, future. I’m sure you’re looking to fund your dream trip, moe power to you, but how will you fund the rest of your life? Remember…time moves on and does not stand still and wait for you. I have/had my dreams as well, and many of them ended nowhere because responsibility took over. It’s good to have dreams, something to strive for. If you can put everything together properly, then good luck. I guess it’s my parental concerns that speak. Love dad
