The thundering sound of footsteps

Can you hear them, the thundering sound of footsteps as crowds of people rush to come and visit my website, look at my photography, read my stories and support me on my upcoming journey?  I certainly can.  In the last week or so I have put up signposts all over the place leading back to my home base.  I’ve finally begun to use the skills that I’ve developed over the last two years to accomplish something. Everything that I have learned about social media is being applied to one end, the success of my trip.

I’ve gone through my profiles on Linkedin, Brazen Careerist, Technorati, Flickr, a couple of Ning social networks, Facebook, Photosig, and a dozen other websites. Each one of those places is viewed by an unknown number of people everyday and represents an opportunity to be seen by someone. You never know who is looking and by chance someone of some importance might stumble upon you, but if your not saying anything they will just move along. The key is to key is to get them to move from where they are to where you want them to be and show them stuff they will find interesting.

When I started this blog I wrote a post, Shout it from the mountaintops, and recommended that if you want to get something done you should tell as many people as possible. Why? Because it puts added pressure on you to actually do what you are saying you will do. What I have just done is taken that to the next level. Now not only my friends and family have been told but basically everyone in the world who takes a look at one of my links has. The more people that visit my site, comment on my Facebook page, and look at my pictures the more I am motivated to keep on moving. Then again, I don’t have much time left so I had better get moving anyways. Also, the more people that know the more people there are that will spread the news.

So now that I have given people directions to my home it’s okay for me to sit back and wait for them to come, right? I should hope the people that already know will tell more people and that others will just randomly come upon me, right? Wrong! Now I need to go out and work twice as hard letting people know about me. The first step of letting friends and family know was easy. They support and join out of love and friendliness but everyone else, well, they have to be wowed and convinced to take their valuable time and spend it on me.

To those of you who have already joined and actively support me, thanks! To those of you who will in the future, thanks! To anyone who has stopped by and found my site boring and not to your liking, thanks for stopping by!

It’s time for me to prepare for the masses that are coming.
