Behind closed doors

There are a lot of cool things I get to see and events that I get to attend doing photography for a magazine that most people don’t even know are happening in their city.  Last weekend on a chilly Sunday night in Milwaukee at a popular bar called Distil a small group of people gathered.  The air was electric with the nervous energy of those who were primed to compete.  Eleven bartenders were set to mix it up and find out who had the tastiest drink.

Perks of the job

“I don’t know if I can do this…I mean…it’s just…so much” Brian’s voice trailed off as he looked at the table adorned with plates brimming with food and decorated with glasses filled to the top with alcohol.  The word ‘cornucopia’ might well have described the feast before us. Yet another bar/restaurant had pulled out the stops to make sure we had all we needed, and more.  Now, since all the photos had been taken it was time to dig in.  Sometimes my work is, how shall I put it, pretty awesome.

From behind the lens

As a photographer I find myself, oddly enough, taking lots of pictures. Whether it’s of food, people, or events there always seems to be a camera in my hand. I float from here to there snapping one shot after another in search of the best composition. Never staying long enough to do more then just skim across the surface. By the time I’ve gotten what I came for the lights have gone dark and everyone has gone home, leaving me to stand there by myself.
